Stewardship Department Offers New Hands-on Ecology Course

Hawk Mountain Sanctuary is now accepting applications for a fully immersive, ten-day Appalachian Ecology Course held June 17 through 26. Cost is $2,800 and includes food and all training. The course is the first of its kind and designed for young people ages 15 to 17 with a passion for the outdoors and a strong interest in pursuing a career in wildlife or habitat conservation.

The posters feature the broad-winged hawk and black vulture, two raptor species that breed in Pennsylvania. The full-color designs were published with support from the Pennsylvania Wild Resources Conservation Program, and offer vibrant illustrations by wildlife artist Bob Sopchick.

Hawk Mountain Sanctuary staff and interns have published a new children's book, "Percy the Victorious Vulture," based on the true and inspirational story of a flightless black vulture that lives in Kempton, PA.
